Harmonious melodies to soothe a dysregulated nervous system and help to build connection with Self
We are a Mother & Daughter duo playing soulful harp and violin music. Despite not having formal musical training, we have skillfully crafted a distinctive musical offering through our collective experiences and lessons. Our mutual love for music fuels our desire to foster connections and communicate through the power of harmonious melodies. What initially began as Janet finding solace in the sounds and vibrations of the harp and Allison revelling in the sheer joy of her violin has evolved into a transformative musical service for others. Sharing the healing essence of our music with others is a privilege. The enchanting resonance of the harp, combined with the emotive tones of the violin, has the power to transport you to a place of serenity and deep introspection. We wholeheartedly invite you to embark on a mesmerizing journey through the tender and poignant harmonies of our live harp and violin offerings, where the allure of these instruments weaves an experience that resonates within the soul. Our music stands as a profound testament to the unbreakable bond between a mother and daughter, beautifully expressed through the universal language of melody and harmony.
A little about
Janet & Allison…
Hello! My name is Janet. I’m a psychotherapist by day (and most evenings) and enjoy plucking the strings of my harp in my spare time. In my mid-forties I began taking harp lessons with the accomplished Maria Jacobson and several years back I became a student of Edie Elkan’s Bedside Harp; a US-based harp therapy program. The formality of my lessons coupled with the freedom when learning to expressively noodle grew my confidence to play at an array of background music and healing harping events. Since those early days, Allison and I joined forces to perform at graduations, award ceremonies, fundraisers, church services, funerals, weddings and our signature Music & Mindfulness series and Calming Notes offerings
I began harping to help soothe my dysregulated nervous system after enduring a traumatic event that left me needing calm, peace, love and tranquility to cope with my anxiety and panic attacks. I was not aware how I would eventually come to rely on my harp during times of overwhelm. My harp is my go-to when life becomes too much. It is my hope to play for others so they, too, may experience the healing qualities of the harp.
Allison has creative juices flowing through her body. She is studying Material Art and Design at university and is the owner of Crafty’s Collection - a business where she designs and creates artisanal baskets and hosts basket making workshops to those interested in reviving a lost art. Her one-of-a-kind baskets intersect - art, beauty and functionality. She is an entrepreneur that is led by her heart and has been described as a ‘true modern day renaissance woman.’ Allison began fiddling at the age of 9 and has not put down her bow since. She has been a competitor in the Canadian Fiddle Competition circuit, and has studied with the esteemed (and humble) Alanna Jennish, award winning fiddle player.
Allison’s musical services are also available for weddings and markets.
